Watch Basics & Specifications

How do I set the time and date on my watch? Setting the time and date on your watch can vary depending on the model and brand. You can refer to the user manual or instructions provided with your watch for specific instructions.

What is the difference between an Automatic and a Quartz movement?

  • Quartz Movement: A battery-powered movement known for its exceptional accuracy and low maintenance. The battery typically needs to be replaced every 2-3 years.

  • Automatic Movement: A mechanical movement powered by the motion of your wrist—it does not use a battery. It is cherished by watch enthusiasts for its intricate craftsmanship. If unworn for a couple of days, it will stop and need to be wound and reset.

Are watches water-resistant? Can I wear my watch while swimming or diving? Most Casio watches are water-resistant to varying degrees. The level of water resistance depends on the model and can range from splash-resistant to suitable for swimming or diving. For other watches, please refer to the specifications of your watch for more information.

What do the water resistance ratings (e.g., 50M, 100M) actually mean?
This is a common point of confusion. The "meter" rating is a technical measure, not a literal diving depth. Here's a practical guide:

  • 30M (3 ATM): Splash resistant. Can withstand rain and handwashing.

  • 50M (5 ATM): Suitable for showering or brief immersion in shallow water.

  • 100M (10 ATM): Suitable for swimming, snorkeling, and other water sports.

  • 200M+ (20 ATM+): Suitable for high-impact water sports and scuba diving.

What is the difference between a quartz and mechanical Casio watch? The main difference between a quartz and mechanical Casio watch is the way the watch keeps time. A quartz watch uses a battery-powered quartz crystal to keep time, while a mechanical watch uses a mechanical movement that is powered by winding the watch or through the movement of the wearer's arm.

What is a "Chronograph" watch?
A chronograph is a watch that includes a built-in stopwatch function. You can recognize it by the extra sub-dials on the watch face and the two pushers on either side of the crown.

Care & Maintenance

  • Avoid exposing it to extreme temperatures, magnets, or harsh chemicals.

  • For automatic watches, consider a professional service every 4-5 years to keep the movement lubricated and accurate.

Can I customize my watch with different straps or bands? Yes, many watches can be customized with different straps or bands. Check the specifications of your watch to see if it's compatible with different bands or straps.
